Overview
WEAR-RESISTANT STEEL PLATE
Wear-resistant steel plates, also named abrasion-resistant plates (AR Plates), are used to reduce wear and tear on equipment surfaces caused by intense rolling abrasion and impact.
Abrasion resistant (AR) steel plate is a high-carbon alloy steel designed specifically to have greater hardness properties than low-carbon steel.
Hardness typically comes at the expense of strength, making AR wear-resistant steel an ideal material for harsh, high-abrasion conditions, and not for structural applications.

What are the Benefits of AR Steel?
Abrasion-resistant steel plate is extremely durable and wear-resistant, defending well against scuffs and scratches. This type of steel works well in harsh applications, and also offers some impact resistance. Wear-resistant steel plates will ultimately help extend the life of your applications and reduce your costs in the long run.
Industrial AR Steel Plate
Abrasion-resistant steel plate is commonly used in energy, industrial manufacturing, infrastructure, and more.

Common Grades
- AR400 -
AR400 is a high-carbon steel with a nominal hardness of 400 and a minimum hardness on the Brinell scale of 360 to 440. Abrasion resistant steel is created by quenching and tempering forged steel plates. Quenching occurs by bringing the steel to a high temperate, between 1,500 and 1,650F, then is quickly cooled with water. During the tempering process, the steel is re-heated again below-critical temperature from 300 to 700F then is cooled to room temperatures. The quenching process creates a crystal structure within the steel that increases the hardness, while the tempering increases the steel's overall durability. The quenching and tempering process change the grain structure to increase the toughness and formability that result in a through-hardened material.
BENEFITS OF AR400 STEEL
The AR400 steel plate is excellent for applications that weldability and formability are a must. The steel plate is versatile, and it can be cut to fit tighter spaces. Abrasion resistant 400 steel is proven to have the best-prolonged service life where abrasion is the cause of failure.
Additional benefits AR400 steel offers that include:
-Three times the strength as mild steel
-Low cost
-Reduces maintenance costs
-Wear-resistant for temperatures under 250°C
-Through-hardness

- AR450F or AR450-
AR450F or AR450 is high-carbon alloy steel composed of a variety of elements, such as boron and carbon, with a surface hardness of 420-470 Hardness Brinell. AR450 is a type of abrasion-resistant steel that has unique hardness, formability, ductility, and impact resistance.
BENEFITS OF AR450 STEEL
Abrasion resistant 450 plate protects your equipment from corrosion, wear, and impact. The steel is superior for applications that require more durability, minimizing the lost production time because of worn-out parts.
AR450 has many other benefits including:
-Less Cost
-Less weight without sacrificing strength
-Extremely durable
-High Impact resistance

- AR500 -
AR500 is a specific type of abrasion-resistant steel that is created by a heat treatment that through-hardens the steel to create a high-impact structure. The steel plate has a hardness of 477-534 BHN which represents the hardness of the material through the penetration of an indenter scale. The steel is a high-carbon steel alloy that is created by a through-hardening process that heats and cools the plate repeatedly. The reheat and cooling cycle treatment creates a crystal-structural hardness that gives it a superior surface quality.
BENEFITS OF AR500 STEEL
AR500 steel lasts 3 times as long as other carbon-alloy steel. The toughness of the steel is what makes the AR500 stand out from other hard steels. It has high weldability and formability without losing its differential properties. The light design can take heavy blows without the risk of deformity, cracking, and other propagation if a local crack does occur.
Additional benefits AR500 steel offers that include:
-Improves the longevity of products by reducing erosion
-Extremely reliable
-Maximizes production
-Cost-effective in the long run
